Frequently Asked Questions
What is FakeTimer?
FakeTimer is a free online countdown timer that lets you display one time to your audience while the actual countdown runs at a different pace. Set 10 minutes to display but only 9 minutes of real time, or vice versa. It's perfect for creating urgency, entertainment, or controlled time pressure.
How does the speed multiplier work?
The speed is calculated by dividing Display time by Actual time. For example, if you set Display to 10 minutes and Actual to 5 minutes, the timer will tick at 2x speed (it will show 10 minutes counting down in just 5 real minutes). If Display is less than Actual, the timer runs slower than real time.
Is FakeTimer free to use?
Yes! FakeTimer is completely free with no registration required. Just set your times and start counting down. There are no hidden fees, premium features, or paywalls.
Can I use FakeTimer for presentations or streaming?
Absolutely. Use the "Hide Interface" button to show only the countdown timer on screen. This is perfect for presentations, Twitch streams (via OBS browser source), event displays, or any situation where you want a clean timer view without the controls visible.
Does FakeTimer work on mobile devices?
Yes. FakeTimer is fully responsive and works on smartphones, tablets, and desktops. The interface adapts to your screen size, making it easy to use on any device with a modern web browser.
What happens when the timer reaches zero?
When the countdown finishes, the display shows "00:00" and an optional sound alert plays (if you've enabled sound using the bell icon). You can then click "Reset" to start again with the same settings.
Can I use FakeTimer for game nights and quizzes?
FakeTimer is ideal for game nights! Add drama to trivia by making time feel faster than it is, or give players "mercy seconds" by slowing down the clock. It works great for charades, Pictionary, trivia nights, and any timed party games.
Is my data stored or tracked?
No. FakeTimer runs entirely in your browser. We don't store your timer settings, track your usage patterns, or require any personal information. The timer works offline once the page is loaded. See our Privacy Policy for details.
